Maine

Once I decided that I was moving back to MD, there were three things I wanted to do before I left Boston.
1.) Go to Salem which I did, and it was LAME!
2.) Go to another game at Fenway since the first game I went to (against the Orioles) was five years ago. It was cold and rainy, and not a good experience. I am going to try to get scalped tickets this Friday (again, against the Orioles), where the weather is expected to be much better, and hence I will appreciate the park more.
3.) Go to Maine, which I did on Sunday. Heather and I were going to try to go camping around Camden, but the stupid Maine Lobster Festival was in town, and hence every hotel and campground anywhere close to Camden or Rockland was full. Many hotels and campgrounds laughed at me for even asking if they had any vacancies. So, instead of Camden, me, Heather, Allie, and Sam took a day trip. The weather was perfect, and Maine quickly became one of my favorite states that I've been to.

We left Boston at around 8:15 on a Sunday. After a quick stop for some coffee, we were on our way.

First stop: Kittery, right on the border of New Hampshire and Maine. Kittery is a town of outlets. We got there at 9:50, the stores opened at 10, and there were already many people waiting to get in. After going to a few stores, we left Kittery at 10:30. The parking lot was already packed. People are pretty serious about their outlets.

Next stop: Portland.
After grabbing some pizza, we did lots and lots of walking.

Apparently, they did not serve nice people here before 1954. In 1953, they were all jerks.

A motto I live my life by:

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's house.

We got there at 3:30 after having walked for a couple hours around Portland. To actually go inside the house, it would have cost $8. The house tour closed at 5, and we wanted to go to the Shipyard Brewery tour, which also closed at 5, and was free. Beer ultimately won out over educating outselves.

The Shipyard Brewery

After the tour of the brewery, we sampled the beer, and it was good.

Before leaving Portland, I could not resist taking a picture of this laundromat on the walk towards the car.

Next stop:

Kennebunk/port is a cute little town where George BushI has a house. I really liked the town, but it being at the height of tourist season, kind of took away from its charm.

After having a delicious dinner of scallops and desserts, it was unfortunately time to leave Maine. Maybe on my next visit I will be able to see Camden and vicinity when the stupid lobster festival is not in town.

Summer of the Stach

Ah, summer. A time to relax, wear shorts, and grow a mustache. As Summer Listmaker can attest, the best time to grow a 'stache is in the summer. Which is why two co-workers challenged the bossman to grow one. The bet was: if bossman could go for 10 days with a mustache, then they would pay him $100 bucks. Yesterday was the last day of the bet. He is at work today and the mustache is gone, which is truly a shame. Here is the bossman in all his stache glory.

As great as his mustache was, my favorite stache I have seen this week was this guy in the audience at Shakespeare in the Park. Not only was his mustache thick and long, but so were his eyebrows. He looked like he was an old baseball player from the late 1800's. I think it is a look that needs to come back.

Just like a heat wave!

The heat wave is finally over! This week the heat index reached 110 degrees, which I guess is hot enough to bake cookies outside. Extreme heat waves especially suck when your third floor apartment does not have air conditioning, and there is no point of buying one since you are moving in a week. Thanks to two very nice co-workers, I was able to sleep at their places with AC to escape the unbearable heat in my apartment.
Word to the wise: Do not leave any Lush products lying around during a heat wave. If you have an cocoa butter body bar, it will melt at 98 degrees, and look like throw up.

The heat may have been bad, but at least I didn't get stuck to the toilet.

One week left in Boston. The next week will be spent packing, working, drinking, and spending lots of time with people I will miss.

First event: tonight, Shakespeare in the Park, and according to the local news this morning, the weather will be "delightful."
